'Accessible, yet enigmatic' is how one of my friends describe my work.

My  aim as an artist is to make the best art I possibly can. Throughout my career, first as a potter, then a found object sculptor and to my present interest in mosaic ,   it has always been a strong consideration for the material as well as a respect  for design qualities which has motivated me.

I seem to have been drawn to  many materials which other artist often overlook , finding in them an inherent beauty others   do not seem to see.   Have I anticipated recycling by several decades?

The mosaics I do are composed of commercial pottery cut into tiles., often with respect to the things which appear on the design of the plates and mugs as part of the over all design of the finished piece. The flexibility of working on thin plywood and the fact that it can be shaped in depth as well as in design makes a versatile , sometimes complex, mosaic surface. The wonderful range of colors available in today’s ceramics and the endless number of thrift shops in Florida, where I now live, means that a trip or two to the surrounding area  makes available a wide variety of tints and shades  in the colors I am seeking. Combine that with the advice which an old friend offered me, ”never lose your sense of zaniness” , and I find myself immersed in the things  I am doing now.  I offer with pride the work of Bill Clark, Artist.
